ENGLISH AND HUMANITIES

During Term 3, the Year 7 & 8 class are participating in an AFL 9’s workshop provided by AFL Victoria’s Mark Lambourne, and assisted by Victoria Police Constable Matt Walker. The students have been learning ball handling skills and have improved from the very first moment that they picked up the strange, oval shaped ball.

Watching the students improve every day makes me very proud to be their teacher. It isn’t just on the football field that they are improving either; their attention in the classroom and their work ethics, have shown drastic improvement this term. Students are putting in more effort and are seeing the results.

In English we are working on an animation unit where students are learning about different styles of animation and ways that they can tell a story. They will also learn about themes, settings and characters as they learn how to structure an essay. As part of their wider learning, students will be attending a Claymation workshop at ACMI in Melbourne on August 16th. Students will explore ways to make their own animated movies using a variety of techniques such as Claymation and Stop motion. They will be assessed on their work at the workshop and the marks will be shown on their reports.

Our Humanities classes this term will focus on Geography and are very information-rich, so students will need to ensure that they revise at the end of each day when they have had a Humanities class so that they retain as much information as possible. They will also have weekly MyEd tasks online which need to be completed for each chapter that we have studied.

I hope that the students continue with this mindset for the remainder of the term.
